Weekend mornings are those pampering moments when you are not in a hurry and can wake up later to prepare the best late breakfast for your family.

French toast roll-upsFrench toasts are actually slices of toast bread generously soaked in cinnamon egg&milk mixture and fried in a good amount of butter. You know what I’m talking about, don’t you? It is the sweetness of our childhood, that magical dessert that takes us back in time, to grandma’s house, when we wait impatiently, gathered around the table, that big plate, full of mouth-watering treats.

Sometimes, when the child in me “wakes up” craving for a sweet portion of childhood memories, I know what I have to do. I put on my apron and try to reproduce the aroma and sweetness of childhood delights. In addition to that traditional recipe that you can find here, today I tried to make a new version – French toast roll-ups – greased with cream cheese, filled with fresh strawberries and blueberries, soaked through in egg&milk bath, and then coated well in cinnamon-flavored sugar.

French toast roll-upsI had French toast roll-ups recipe pinned for a long time, but the impression that I will have to spend a lot of time cooking made me always postpone it. My kids are big fans of French toast, and to make them happy, I always try to surprise them. This recipe has real success. Surely it is not the healthiest dessert, as it has enough sugar, but fresh berries and cream cheese raise it to a beneficial level.

I could easily declare it the simplest dessert in the world. Anyone can do it, and it is definitely to everyone’s taste, big and small alike. Be careful, it is addictive!
