French toastThis great and savoury breakfast recipe dates back years ago, however, the original roots are unknown. But, this simple recipe is still so famous and popular among the world that many countries have personalized their own version of this dish. As the name inspires, it definitely has its roots from France and utterly this dish made its way to US, England, and other countries.

This quick and easy French toast recipe saves you from throwing always the bread that isn’t fresh and crunchy. Maybe this was the real meaning of the invention of this dish – because throwing the bread to garbage is such a pity.

A touch of vanilla and aromatic cinnamon, some brown sugar, the best soft and fresh bread and your whole family will go crazy after these fabulous French toasts.

What is the best bread for French toast?

French toast

The best bread for French toast is definitely optional and countless as you can choose whatever you have or whatever you like. Definitely, the best French toast will be made of fresh and crunchy toast bread to serve one of the best, soft, and juicy French toasts. Theoretically, any kind of bread would work great for this recipe – the idea is to find the best tasting one.

Even though I have experienced different kinds of bread through the years, I came across the ones that are the best or suits my preferences, most.

Fresh brioche is one of the best bread with an authentic Parisian-taste. Soft, fluffy, sweet, and so delish that for me brioche makes the most delicious French toast.

Other great options are Challah bread, ciabatta, baguettes split lengthwise soaked in eggs and fried in butter. These kind of bread are less sweet than brioche and would taste a little different. However, the taste will remain the same irresistible.

It is up to you to choose either sweeter or less sweet French toasts you would like to serve.

How do you make French toast from scratch?

French toast, aka eggy bread or Bombay toast, is an easy breakfast recipe made of sliced fresh and crunchy bread soaked in eggs with milk and then fried in butter. Topped with maple syrup and fresh fruits, these French toasts will taste mouthwatering. For note: if you look for the lactose-free option, you can choose lactose-free whole milk or dairy-free option.

The ingredients:

  • Fresh 3-4 slices of bread
  • ½ cup milk (any milk is welcomed here, I like goat milk – but you can use an ordinary cow one)
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Fresh fruits – I have used strawberries and blueberries

Making French toasts in the morning is a real treat. My family simply adores that sweet indulgence that makes the day even brighter and happier.

French toast

  1. Take a large bowl and beat 4 eggs with ½ cup of milk. Add the cinnamon and vanilla extract for more richness of flavour.
  2. Cut the bread slices and let them soak some seconds in the egg mixture until they absorb all flavours and aromas. Soak the bread on both sides.
  3. Heat the skillet over medium to high and add the butter. Here you can easily add olive oil instead of butter. I simply adore eggs fried in butter.
  4. Place the egg-soaked bread into the skillet and cook on both sides until golden. Usually, it takes 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve warm topped with Maple syrup and fresh fruits.
  6. Simple and fabulous. One of our favourite breakfast recipes.

These best cinnamon French toasts are a must make a sweet treat in the mornings. Less than 15 minutes, and you will serve a restaurant-like breakfast recipe.
