Making or buying sauces; this is the question?

I have to admit that I also buy sauces for home, and I am not an exception when it comes to dipping in some meat or fish in bought sauces. A homemade sauce is definitely the best alternative to the bought one, which is why it sometimes motivates me to make some sauces at home.

Homemade Tartar SauceFor today, I have tried tartar sauce that assembles in 5 minutes and tastes really refreshing and a little sourly. You can also check some other sauce recipes made at home:

Homemade tartar sauce is tangy and easy to assemble. It needs some simple ingredients that you probably have in your fridge. Some pickles, dill, lemon, Dijon mustard, and spices are the only ingredients you need to make this tartar fast and delicious.

Can I substitute mayo with sour cream?

Homemade Tartar SauceThis is the question many people use to ask me, and I have to say, yes you can. I try always to find the healthiest ways and the most delicious tastes. For this easy tartar sauce, you can skip the mayo with sour cream, but the tastes still differ a little. Even though mayo isn’t that good, but in small quantities, it is okay and tastes much better.

It depends on your liking and tastes. If you are using mayo, just like me, try to buy the best one, or simply make homemade mayo.

How to make Tartar Sauce?

Homemade Tartar SauceMaking tartar sauce at home isn’t too complicated or messy. It is a simple dip to spoon in and enjoy next to any dish. For example, tartar sauce will tastily pair with roasted meat, with vegetable frittata, with some fish. It’s light, and a little sour-like taste will nicely and gently complete any meal.

For example, my daughter loves ketchup; she eats everything with it. I try to convince her that it isn’t that good, and I try to limit her to a small amount or simply substitute with other sauces.

It is at your liking what sauce you like and which one you decide to make at home.

For me, the best dip I simply adore is Tzaziki sauce that I simply love next to anything. However, this tartar sauce is so tangy and pleasant that it has earned a place among my tasty and fabulous recipes.

Homemade Tartar Sauce

The ingredients:

  • One cup finely chopped pickles ( I have used three small pickled cucumbers)
  • One tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 cup of Mayo
  • pinch of tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • Some lemon juice

You can make this sauce in two ways: the first one with the food processor’s help where you add all the ingredients and mix until it looks like a creamy paste.

The second option, the one that I have done, is mixing all the ingredients in a bowl and serving it that way. I adore feeling the ingredients’ shape and taste in a sauce – it as if better accentuates the flavours.

Homemade Tartar Sauce

Take a large cutting board and finely cut pickles. Take a small bowl and mix all the ingredients. Squeeze some lemon juice at the end when you adjust the taste. It shouldn’t be too acidic or too sourly. It has to have a mild, tasty flavour.

Simple and easy your tartar sauce is ready to be served next to anything.

Can it be stored?

Yes, it can be stored in the fridge and used for some days. You can enjoy it next to any dishes you make for dining. However, keep in mind that you can assemble this simple tartar sauce in 5 minutes, so try to eat fresh and healthy dishes.
