Ingredients for the Tzatziki sauce

Only natural and healthy ingredients are used for this authentic and easy recipe. To make tzatziki for a family of four, you will need 2 cucumbers, 12 oz of Greek yogurt, 2-3 cloves of garlic, juice of half a lemon, one handful of fresh dill, 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil, and a pinch of salt. Ingredients as basic as that will turn into one of the most famous and used dips in the entire world.

How to prepare the tzatziki?

Start the preparation by washing the cucumber and the dill. Then, trim the cucumber. By peeling off the skin of the cucumber you ensure a finer consistency of the sauce. Moreover, you eliminate its bitter taste and the tzatziki sauce gets a finer taste and texture by peeling the skin of the vegetable.

When done, grate the cucumber. Use a grater, just watch out your fingers, don’t press too harshly. At this point, put the grated cucumber in a colander and let the vegetation water drain. To speed up the process, lightly press on the mass for the water to come out quicker. Put the result in a bowl you will eventually mix all the ingredients in.

Now peel the garlic cloves and grate it using the same grater. The thinner the garlic, the better it will incorporate in the mixture. Add the garlic to the bowl with the cucumber. Now pour over the Greek yogurt, the lemon juice, and the olive oil and mix well. Finally, season with salt and flavor with chopped dill. Mix again. For a more appealing aspect, drizzle a few olive oil drops on top and sprinkle with a little of the chopped dill.

How to store the Tzatziki sauce?

To preserve the tzatziki sauce, cover the surface with oil and then wrapt a piece of cling film on the bowl. Keep it in the refrigerator for no longer than 2-3 days.

Tips

Serve the tzatziki in a small bowl garnished with black olives, dill, or mint. As an alternative to the lemon, you can grate some pickles and add them to the sauce. The acidity of the pickles will give the necessary sour taste. Here again, remember to squeeze the juices out of the pickles before adding them to the composition.

As you see, tzatziki is a refreshing, tasty very simple recipe to make as an aperitif or as a sauce served to main dishes. What more could you ask for! Tzatziki is one of the staple refreshing recipes you mustn’t miss.
