Buffalo sauce is a slightly spicy sauce originated in Buffalo, New York, in 1964. Homemade buffalo sauce is very easy to make, it goes almost on everything and can be adjusted to anyone’s taste. Its rich buttery flavor will conquer even those people who generally do not like hot sauces.
What is Keto Buffalo Sauce made of?
Keto Buffalo Sauce made of simple ingredients that I usually have on hand in my fridge or pantry.
Butter – one of my favorite ingredients. Better grab unsalted butter as almost all ingredients contain salt. So you can easily regulate the amount of it. Did you know that most commercial buffalo sauces are usually made with vegetable oil? That’s why homemade buffalo sauces that are made with butter tastes so good!
Hot sauce – choose the one you desire. Sometimes, when I am preparing buffalo sauce for my kids I substitute it with regular tomato sauce. And you know it doesn’t taste worst.
Rice vinegar – also it is up to your taste which one you will add. White vinegar or wine vinegar will not spoil the taste.
Worcestershire sauce – this is real trouvaille, now I can add it everywhere.
Honey – this is optional ingredients, as it is not generally suitable for a keto diet. But for regular buffalo sauce, it will enrich the flavor and balance the spiciness.
Garlic – if you are preparing a big batch of sauce, then I will advise you to use garlic powder. So you can store the sauce longer. Also if you are on a strict keto diet it is more convenient, as garlic powder contains fewer carbs per gram then fresh once. Anyway, fresh minced garlic is much more flavorful and aromatic.
Cayenne pepper or chili flakes.
How to make Keto Buffalo Sauce?
There is nothing tastier than homemade sauces. Regularly in commercial sauces, you can find even harmful ingredients. So, do not find an excuse to make this 5 minute sauce at home by yourself. It will taste even tastier and healthier, as you add only good and quality ingredients.
First, grab a small saucepot over low to medium heat and melt one cup of unsalted butter. Then transfer it to a jar. Start adding remaining ingredients: 1 ½ cup of hot sauce, 1tbsp garlic powder, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce, 1 tsp white vinegar and ½ tsp Cayenne pepper. Close the lid and shake well. And voila! Enjoy the best fancy homemade buffalo sauce!
- Adjust the sauce to your taste, make it spicier or milder if desired. Add more or fewer spices or even some Parmesan.
- Prepare a big batch of buffalo sauce in advance and store it in the fridge for about one week. The sauce will thicken in the fridge. Just before serving reheat it for 10 seconds in the microwave.
