What is Sesame Chicken?
Sesame Chicken is tasty and easy to prepare dishes that will replace any takeout version. An incredible flavor, crispy chicken tossed in sesame seeds, and lots of garlic. Some honey, spices, and this chicken recipe will burst with aroma and flavors.
The tangy, savory sauce is simply irresistible – I usually add toasted sesame oil to adjust the taste and to make it more delicious. Why is this dish so special and at the same time so unique – a perfectly cooked chicken and the sauce itself. Chicken has to be tender, juicy, soft, and crispy, while the coating should be sweet/spicy and garlicky. Such a perfect combination that no doubt anyone will find this recipe amazing.
What is sesame sauce made of:
This sticky, sweet, and savory sesame sauce is the king ingredient of Sesame Chicken. There are several methods to make this sauce. This sesame sauce is made of soy sauce brown sugar, sesame oil, sesame seeds, fish sauce, honey, rice vinegar, and some chili flakes. I have seen some recipes that include ketchup, dark soy sauce, cornstarch, or Shaoxing rice wine. For me these ingredients are extra and I didn’t find them interesting for this recipe.
So, to prepare sesame sauce combine ingredients in a medium bowl or a jar: ⅓ cup of soy sauce, 3 tbsp toasted sesame oil, 1 tbsp brown sugar, 1 tbsp honey, 1 tsp fish sauce, 1tsp rice vinegar, ½ tsp of chili flakes and ⅓ cup sesame seeds. I have recently discovered mixing ingredients in a jar with a lid to get finger-licking sauces in a matter of seconds, mess-free as a bonus for inventiveness. Set aside.

Grab 2 lbs boneless and skinless chicken thighs and divide it into chunks. Heat 2 tbsp of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tbsp of grated ginger and 4 minced garlic. Saute them some minutes and add in the chicken chunks. Sprinkle 1 tbsp of flour and stir to combine. For the tastier results, deep-fry chicken. When you see the meat is golden brown color, pour the sauce and mix gently to coat the chicken chunks. Let it simmer until thickened for about 3-4 minutes. The sauce will become sticky and will coat savory chicken.
Transfer chicken from the skillet over rice or noodles, garnish with some fresh spring onion and extra sesame seeds.
This great recipe can healthily and nicely pair with sauteed broccoli, fresh veggie salads, baked vegetables, or cereals.
