Ingredients for Chocolate Orange Cupcakes:

Chocolate Orange CupcakesThese luxurious chocolate orange cupcakes recipe requires just a few ingredients, and you might only have some on hand. So, below I will leave you the short list of products you will need:

  • All-purpose flour – my recipe uses all-purpose flour, but you can use gluten-free flour to your liking. Also, you can substitute half of AP flour with almond or rice flour. To get fluffy cupcakes, make sure you correctly measure and sift the flour.
  • Chocolate – always use high-quality dark chocolate. In case you do not accept dark chocolate, simply use milk chocolate.

  • Cocoa – the same thing I will say about cocoa – opt for unsweetened high-quality cocoa powder.
  • Sugar – the cupcakes are made with brown sugar, but it can be easily substituted with any other sugar.
  • Butter – melted unsalted butter is what you need for this recipe. Butter makes cupcakes fluffy and moist.
  • Eggs – fresh room temperature egg.
  • Heavy Cream – you will need qualitative high-fat heavy cream.
  • Baking Powder
  • Orange juice and zest – use fresh and sweet oranges.

  • Dry Fruits – the best choice is candied orange peels. Otherwise, skip them or use any candied fruits you have.
  • Salt – this recipe requires just a small pinch of salt. I recommend not skipping it, as it enhances the chocolate flavor.

For note: all ingredients should be at room temperature. Also, to get perfect airy, soft, and moist cupcakes, make sure you do not overmix the batter.

How to make Chocolate Orange Cupcakes?

I adore making gorgeous and versatile cupcakes. I wanted these chocolate cupcakes to taste decadent and chocolatey, as you can only imagine. The batter is made with high-quality dark chocolate, freshly squeezed orange juice and freshly grated orange zest.

Chocolate Orange CupcakesCombine the sugar and zest of one orange in a mixing bowl. Pour over the melted unsalted butter. Mix well to incorporate, and then stir in eggs one at a time. Next, squeeze over the egg mixture juice of one orange.

In a separate bowl, sift flour and combine with cocoa powder, baking powder, and a small pinch of salt.

Now, gently incorporate dry ingredients with the egg mixture. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate. Slowly stir in melted chocolate and then heavy cream. In the end, add in candied fruit. Scrape down the bowl’s sides, ensuring all ingredients are well combined.

Preheat the oven to 350 °F.

Chocolate Orange CupcakesGrease muffin pan with butter. Spoon the batter into the muffin cup, almost full. Send to the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes. As each oven is individual, and to ensure you do not overbake the cupcakes, check them for doneness with a toothpick after 15 minutes.

Once baked, cool the muffins on the wire rack.

Once the chocolate orange cupcakes have cooled, decorate them with your favorite frosting or sprinkle some freshly shredded orange zest.
