Today is about the best Air Fryer Hash Brown – extra crispy on the outside and tender inside. Brunch lovers – I hope you will appreciate it.
As for me, the best hash browns are made with shredded potatoes. Hash brown is a classic and perfect breakfast side dish. Actually, this brilliant recipe for Hash Brown is a staple of basically all-worthy American breakfast menus. I just love this dish—what is not to love here – crunchy potatoes that taste amazing and look impressive. Though many of you love the restaurant version, you can definitely try to make one from scratch at home. Believe me, it’s worth the time and effort.
During the weekdays, we used to have quick dishes ( Vegan rice pudding, Bacon sandwich with cheddar and tomatoes, or Fried eggs in air fryer) or ones made ahead of time, like Russian cabbage pie or Butternut squash muffins. While on weekends, I adore spoiling my family with delicious breakfasts or brunches, like Pumpkin stuffed french toast, Simple breakfast quesadilla, Banana muffins, or Easy vegetable frittata.
The best Hash Brown recipe:
Hash browns is a trendy American breakfast dish consisting mainly of finely shredded fried potatoes. This type of breakfast is not considered the healthiest one, so I don’t make them so often. However, when I make them, there are no leftovers. Paired with sour cream or yogurt, hash browns are super tasty and delicious. It is not a complicated recipe nevertheless, it needs some time to shred the potatoes thinly and fry them in a skillet full of oil. I would like to try this recipe in my air fryer, but I am afraid they will become too dry.
Hashbrowns have a crunchy/golden texture with a juicy and tender inside to enjoy next to anything. Even though this recipe is considered a breakfast recipe, I still like to make it for dinner as a side dish next to a slice of grilled meat or fish. Hashbrowns are my favorite potato recipe: deliciously tasty, crunchy, and crowd-pleasing.
How do you remove excess water from raw shredded potatoes for Hash Browns?
To get a hash brown crispy crust, there is a small secret. You must rinse shredded potatoes in cold water. I prefer to peel potatoes for hash browns. Although it is optional, but make sure you wash potatoes well before shredding them. Peel and grate potatoes on the large holes of a grater. Once you are done, transfer them to a bowl with cold water. Rinse well until the water is clear. This tip will help you to remove any extra starch from the potatoes.
Now, squeeze shredded potatoes from the water and transfer them to a paper towel. Spread them out over a few paper towels and dry them to get out as much liquid as possible. Watch the video tutorial for detailed instructions.
For note* make sure you squeeze enough liquid from the potatoes, otherwise, they will get soggy instead of crispy.
How do you make Air Fryer Hash Browns?
Once you have the potatoes shredded and completely dry, transfer them to a bowl. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a pinch of paprika. Add the breadcrumbs and olive oil. Breadcrumbs add flavor and crisp up the crust. Mix until the seasoning is evenly combined with the potatoes.
Line a baking tray with parchment paper. With a spoon, scoop the mixture of hash browns and place them into a round cookie cutter on the baking sheet (watch the video tutorial for detailed instructions). Press down to form a patty. Remove the mold and repeat with the remaining mixture. This manipulation is optional, in case you want to get perfectly shaped patties. Otherwise, just spoon the mixture on the tray.
Send the raw hash browns to the freezer for about 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, preheat the Air Fryer at 370°F. Line the basket of your air fryer with parchment paper. Brush it with some olive oil. You will have to fry hash browns in a single layer in batches. Watch the video below:
So, place the frozen hash browns in the basket. Cook for about 12-15 minutes until golden-brown. Cooking time depends on how thick your patties are. The key to perfectly cooked hashbrowns is to keep them to about 1/3 to 1/2 inch thickness.
Serve hash browns immediately paired with your favorite breakfast dish.
