What bread to use for Tuna Egg Rolls?
The answer is simple – the one that you can find in your nearest market.
I love pinwheels, and I often experiment with various flavors. Aside from the delicious filling, you will need flatbread to roll up it easily. Today, on grocery shelves, you can find a wide choice of this type of bread. Here are some of them used all across the world that will complement beautiful this recipe:
- Tortilla – better use soft flour tortilla. It is easy to find in any grocery store;
- Lavash – this one I love to use;
- Pita;
- Naan;
- Chapati;
- Focaccia.
Note: If you are following a low-carb diet, ketogenic diet, or simply trying to lower your sugar and carbohydrates intake, then instead of flatbread, you can use an omelet. Also, you can make your own gluten-free kind of flatbread from hydrated nuts, oil, psyllium, and water.
How to make Tuna Egg Rolls?
You can serve the most delicious tuna egg rolls with just a few ingredients and in less than 15 minutes at your disposal. Canned tuna, boiled eggs, cream cheese – they go so well! And this recipe is perfect for any type of event.
Start with the flatbread – this time, I was lucky to find lavash in an Armenian grocery store. I consider this type of flatbread just perfect for pinwheels and roll-ups recipes. It is soft, easy to wrap and fold, comes in big sheets, does not crack, and has a neutral taste. Flour tortillas will work great too, but with lavash, you will get the perfect rolls.
So lay the flatbread and spread a generous amount of cream cheese all over it. Make sure to not spread cream cheese on one side of the flatbread, about 2 inches (see video). Top with salad leaves. I have used salad mix in this particular recipe, but an excellent pairing to tuna can make arugula, baby spinach, and romaine lettuce. Use a greater for the hard-boiled eggs and sprinkle it all over the area. In the end, top with a generous amount of canned tuna.
Now, before cutting it into smaller pieces, you need to roll the flatbread. Make sure you roll it tightly so that the filling doesn’t fall out. Then, wrap the roll in cling film. Don’t worry about wrapping it tightly.
Finally, put it in the fridge for about 30 minutes so that the rolls get a better firm shape that will not fall apart upon cutting. Before serving, remove the cling film and slice it into desired thickness.
Enjoy outstanding tuna egg rolls right away.
