You can choose any fruit you want and you can make countless combinations. For instance, if you live in Bali, use the typical fruits of the island such as mangosteen or pomelo. However, if you’re not that lucky to have that exotic choice, stick to the classic bananas and peaches. Be sure that the final result will be delicious in both cases. The only recommendation to get indeed a healthy bowl of fruits is to use seasonal fruits grown organically by local farmers. My perfect fruit bowl is made of watermelon, melon,  grapes, and with the best natural sweetener ever –  maple syrup.

What can I put on top of my fruit salad or fruit bowl?

A fruit salad becomes more than a simple and healthy dessert especially when you top the bowl with some extra goodness. Crown the dish with some lime juice, honey, whipped cream, or with a nice scoop of ice cream. You can also use agave or maple syrup and a few mint leaves to further enrich and perfume your fruit salad. However, if you want to take this bowl to another level, sprinkle some nuts over it. Damn, can you think of something more perfect than this?

Fruit salad is one of the simplest and tastiest desserts you can prepare in absolutely every season of the year. The concept of serving the salad only during summer is erroneous. You can chop fruits in winter and they will give their best of taste and perfume. Dice and mix the fruits and season with lemon or orange juice. A winter fruit bowl will give just as much satisfaction, especially if you add walnuts, almonds, or dehydrated coconut flakes on top.

How to prevent fruit salad from turning brown?

The best way to keep the fruits from darkening is to splash the fruit cubes with lemon juice or other acidic juice such as orange or pineapple juice. When you coat fruits such as bananas, peaches, or apples with natural fruit acid, they will tend to darken way slower and will preserve a beautiful, fresh aspect. I recommend sticking to the natural juices over the commercial anti-darkening preparation.  

How to wash fruits?

It is very important to use clean fruits when preparing a fruit salad or a fruit bowl. To make sure your fruits are clean, always rinse the products in the first place, even before peeling them. This is how you avoid the dirt and bacteria getting on the fruit itself, on your hands, or on the knife upon preparation. 

You do not need any special soaps or chemicals to wash it, just use regular running water and gently rub the surface with your hands. If you find some fruits too dirty, you may use a clean cloth or brush to take off the dirt. 

Finally, use a kitchen paper towel to dry out the fruits. These simple steps are essential in preparing a fruit salad that is germ-free.

August is the time of the year when I get spoiled with watermelon, melon, and grapes. I got inspired by these fruits that are very sweet yet irresistibly tasty. See the ingredients below you need to create joy in a plate:

  • A quarter of a medium watermelon
  • Half of a ripe melon
  • 1 handful of white grapes
  • 1 handful of red grapes
  • Juice of a half a lemon
  • 2 tablespoons of maple syrup
  • A few mint leaves

Optionally, you may serve the bowl with some whipped cream, yogurt, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. 

Tip: Use at least 3 types of fruits for a better variation and richer taste. 

How to make the august fruit bowl or a fruit salad?

Always start the preparation of the salad by washing fruits. The cut the fruits and remove the seeds when that’s a necessary step like in the case of melon or watermelon. You don’t do that with grapes, you just eat them with seeds, that’s a great source of fiber that will help your digestion. 

Then cut them all of the same shapes. I like cutting the fruits in cubes. Make sure you have approximately the same size so that the result is beautiful besides delicious. 

In the end add the lemon juice, the maple syrup, and your fruit bowl is ready to roll.  

How to serve the august fruit bowl?

I like to serve the fruit bowl cold, for that reason, I place the already diced fruits sprinkled with lemon juice in the fridge for about 15 min. Then, for an appealing presentation, I serve the fruit salad in small bowls portioned for each of my guests.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/4 medium watermelon ripe
  • 1/2 medium melon ripe
  • 1 handful white grapes
  • 1 handful red grapes
  • 1/2 lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 4 leaves mint crushed

Instructions
 

  • Wash well all the fruits
  • Peel and take out the seeds out of the melon and watermelon
  • Dice the melon and watermelon
  • Cut the grapes in halves
  • Mix all the fruits in a single bowl
  • Sprinkle with lemon juice
  • Pour the maple syrup on top
  • Ornament with mint leaves
  • Serve with pleasure
