How to make shrimp spaghetti?
Shrimp Spaghetti recipe is a famous Mediterranean dish with a dozen of parmesan, garlic, and shrimp to make the pasta taste buttery and juicy. For this recipe, I have bought medium-size shrimp, aromatic garlic, butter, and good quality parmesan. Shrimp are not so cheap, but worth any penny due to its restaurant-quality dish easily cooked at home. I used frozen shrimp, as they are cheaper and I could afford to buy 2 packs to eat more of it in my pasta. For this dish, all you have to do is to boil up some pasta and sauté all the shrimp in a dozen of garlic butter. Once the shrimp are ready and cooked for about 2-3 minutes – toss it in your pasta adding some fresh greens (optional). This is so simple, easy and tasty that can be cooked at any time of the year. Sometimes an easy and simple dish can turn your weeknight meal taste and look fancy. I love to spoil my family, as cooking is my weakness.
How to cook spaghetti for shrimps?
I usually buy whole-grain spaghetti of different sizes. My mom usually makes me home-made thick pasta, which, I simply adore, as they remind me of my youth and the way she used to spoil me.
Boil up some pasta in a large pot. I usually add 2-3 drops of oil and salt when the water is boiling, just to avoid sticking pasta and for a better looking. When the pasta is cooked ‘al-dente,’ as mentioned on the pack, pour the water and add the boiled pasta to the sauce and mix all together. Add parmesan on the top of the food for a better and more consistent taste. Well, this is definitely an incredible hearty dish, very flavorful and healthy. I cook shrimp paste frequently in my house.
What pasta shapes to use?
This shrimp pasta recipe is ideal with spaghetti. But, they also can be of different dimensions. I recommend the one I usually use for this recipe, the smallest ones as they are long and I want to feel the garlic shrimp with pasta in my mouth, rather more pasta with shrimp. For this recipe you can use any kind of pasta you have at home, no one will criticize you, but if you want a restaurant-like dish – try to make it the Italian way. Boiling al-dente, small size paste will make your meal look like a perfect Italian dish.
How to cook the shrimp sauce?
Because shrimp are expensive and so good, I have bought frozen shrimp. First, and maybe the most important key to delicious and tasty shrimp, is to make a savory marinade. Shrimp have to stay in the marinade for at least 20-30 minutes before cooking. Once they have absorbed the marinade made of herbs, oil, a pinch of sea salt and some black pepper, they will be cooked in a skillet until they change color (3-5 minutes on each side) in the garlic-buttery consistency.
The Method:
- For the marinade: I have used quality virgin oil, salt, pepper, lemon zest, lemon juice, garlic and herbs on your choose.
- Marinade the shrimps in the marinade for 20-30 minutes.
- In a large pot, boil the water and cook spaghetti al-dente.
- In a large frying pan melt 2-3 tablespoon of butter, with some drops of oil to avoid burning.
- Add the mashed garlic and cook for some minutes.
- Add the shrimps and cook until they change the color from pale rose to red ones (usually 2-4 minutes on each side). Season with sea salt if needed. I also use a good glass of dry white wine, as it goes so perfect with this dish. After it has evaporated, add the cream and stir.
- When the sauce is ready, toss them in the drained pasta. Make sure that the spaghetti has absorbed all the flavors and made a tasty combination.
- Add cilantro and parmesan for the final taste and look.
So easy and so delicious, this shrimp spaghetti recipe can be enjoyed with a glass of white wine, a romantic atmosphere due to its super flavorful taste.
What wine to drink?
I usually use my favorite white wines Pinot Gris or Sauvignon Blanc. They are easy and very aromatic adding some nice and intense flavor to my shrimp spaghetti dish.
Recipe Tips:
This kind of dish doesn’t lose its great and yummy taste on the second day, so it can be reheated and served with a nice amount of parmesan topping the dish.
This dish can be cooked with both shrimp or prawns. I opt more for shrimp as they are cheaper and devein.
You can add some soy sauce to the basic shrimp marinade.
Many of my friends add blue cheese for a more creamy and more consistency sauce.
Capers taste nice and can be used in this recipe as well.
