Homemade Mexican hot chocolate is easy to make and flavorful to enjoy. The small difference between an authentic hot chocolate and one of the Mexican style, are the spices you add to make it more memorable. I adore both versions.
2 cups of fresh milk
½ cup of chocolate chips
2 tbsp cocoa powder
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg
⅙ tsp cayenne pepper
Assembling the ingredients:
Take a small saucepan and pour the milk. Boil at a medium heat over the stove until it starts to make some foam. Turn the heat to low and add the chocolate. Whisk well until it fully dissolves into the milk. Add the cocoa powder and take off the heat. Whisk well until all the ingredients have incorporated.
Now add the spices and mix well all the ingredients to create an unreal aromatic smell. Pay attention, I didn’t add any sugar. It is optional and at your discretion.
Pour into some nice cups the mixture of hot chocolate and serve immediately.
For tips: if you want an easier but also delicious drink, simply make some milk froth at your coffee machine. Add all the ingredients and mix well.
If your Mexican hot chocolate drink isn’t that sweet, simply add some sugar and top some marshmallows or other cookies.
