Mexican hot chocolate recipe originates from Mexico and extends to Central America. Mexicans adore species and lots of flavour in their dishes. It is not a surprise that even a cup of hot chocolate has personalized their way and taste. It dates back to the Maya years when people made their first hot chocolate infused with spices, and years before it was discovered by the world today. Hot Chocolate is made with milk, this is the traditional version. If you are vegetarian then you can easily skip it with water or plant-based milk. When milk is boiling simply add cocoa powder and sweetened chocolate to create a simple, but tasty drink.

How do you drink hot chocolate?
This simple warm drink is drunk anyway. Some tips for a better hot chocolate drink recipe.Â
Use regular good quality dark chocolate instead of powdered one. The authentic chocolate has a more pronounced and deeper taste. You will feel the difference instantly with a real qualitative chocolate bar. I have used a sweet dark with milk chocolate.Â
Stir constantly the milk at the time it is boiling, and you add the chocolate and cocoa powder.
Try to drink it immediately to enjoy an authentic delicious taste.
Try to use spices you like, but keep in mind cloves or nutmeg here add just an unbelievable delicious aroma.Â

Homemade Mexican hot chocolate is easy to make and flavorful to enjoy. The small difference between an authentic hot chocolate and one of the Mexican style, are the spices you add to make it more memorable. I adore both versions.
The ingredients:Â
2 cups of fresh milk
½ cup of chocolate chips
2 tbsp cocoa powder
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp ground nutmeg
â…™ tsp cayenne pepper
Assembling the ingredients:
Take a small saucepan and pour the milk. Boil at a medium heat over the stove until it starts to make some foam. Turn the heat to low and add the chocolate. Whisk well until it fully dissolves into the milk. Add the cocoa powder and take off the heat. Whisk well until all the ingredients have incorporated. Â
Now add the spices and mix well all the ingredients to create an unreal aromatic smell. Pay attention, I didn’t add any sugar. It is optional and at your discretion.Â
Pour into some nice cups the mixture of hot chocolate and serve immediately.Â
For tips: if you want an easier but also delicious drink, simply make some milk froth at your coffee machine. Add all the ingredients and mix well.Â
If your Mexican hot chocolate drink isn’t that sweet, simply add some sugar and top some marshmallows or other cookies.Â
Enjoy with pleasure!
