Cured salmon sandwich stuffed with iceberg leaves and a simple mayo dressing makes one of the easiest snacks to enjoy any meal of the day.Â
What is cured salmon?
To be clear, cured salmon is a way of preserving the fish to prevent it from spoilage.Â
Pay attention, as I have used lightly salted salmon to avoid a smoky or too-salted taste. My family likes mild tastes; this is why I have paired my fish with healthy black bread to obtain a healthy balanced sandwich. This sandwich is pretty simple to make with just a few ingredients, and such sandwiches are not just delicious to enjoy, but they look fresh, colorful, and stunning. Â
Why a salmon sandwich?
Usually, some weeks of the year, we go meatless. We like to have vegetarian weeks and enjoy more fish. Â
Salmon or other kinds of fish sandwiches are also our weakness, and we like to diversify them and enjoy them with different add-ins. A salmon sandwich is a fast and quick dish when you want a healthy snack to take with you or enjoy when you make it. For note: such sandwiches are better to savor when you leave them for some minutes or hours, as they will absorb and soften the bread, thus making it easier to eat. Â
These sandwiches are rather versatile, as you can personalize them to your liking. I kept it simple and delicious. The secret here lies in the quantities of everything you add in. I like the taste of lightly salted salmon, so I try adding more fish and sauce. Nothing complicated and really easy, a simple sandwich that is super delicious and healthy.Â
I buy healthy black bread with seeds to eat a delicious sandwich. Another trick I make to soften the bread is to lay a slice of lemon on top of the sandwich and throw it away while enjoying it. The fresh lemon aroma will make it taste better and more delicious. Try this trick and get convinced.Â
How do I cure the salmon?
There are two ways of curing salmon: buy it from the store or marinate it your way. I will come up with the marinating recipe and let you know how to obtain a lightly salted salmon piece at home quickly and safely.Â
This time I bought a piece of salmon and used it in my sandwich next to some other ingredients.
The mayo sauce:
For a simple mayo sauce where to a cup of mayo, I add a handful of finely chopped dill, cilantro, garlic powder or one clove of garlic, and some lemon juice for freshness. Mix well and grease both bread halves to soften it and make it lingering tasty.Â
Pay attention; I didn\t grill the bread because the black bread I usually buy is firm and does not need grilling. If you go with a fresh white baguette, you better warm the halves on a skillet or into an air fryer result.Â
The ingredients for two servings:
- four halves of black bread
- eight slices of salmon (depending on the thickness of the fish)
- Iceberg leaves or baby spinach
- Sauce
