Ingredients for smoked salmon salad

This delicious salad is packaged with lots of healthy ingredients. The irresistible taste is created by the combination of avocado, arugula, eggs, and smoked salmon. It is more than a salad, it is a low-carb balanced dish perfect for those seeking healthy recipes.

Smoked salmon is the protagonist of the salad, the distinctive character. Salmon can be cured by hot or cold smoke, making the difference in taste and texture. Either way, smoked salmon is a good source of protein, omega, and vitamin B. However, considering the high salt content, it is advisable to eat smoked salmon moderately, once a week.

Arugula is an excellent source of fiber. Trustworthy sources describe arugula as a delicious green that is low in sugar, calories, carbohydrates. It is an indispensable green, especially when you like to eat clean. Moreover, its peppery taste and crunchy texture work perfectly when paired with tomatoes. This salad green has conquered my heart and it’s never missing from my festive tables, be it arugula with smoked salmon, the Simply Refreshing Arugula & Tomatoes Salad, or the Vibrant Beetroot & Arugula Salad.

Eggs. Boiled eggs to add lean protein and fabulous taste to the salad. Needless to say how treasurable eggs are, especially when paired with delicious ingredients like in this salad.

Avocado, the alligator pear needs little introduction. The health benefits to the human body of its monounsaturated fatty acids are well known and appreciated. Moreover, the versatile fruit fits perfectly in so many recipes. Try out the Zesty Shrimp Avocado Quinoa Bowl, the Colourful Radish and Avocado Salad, or the Broccoli Salad with Creamy Avocado

To complete the taste, you will need ripe and juicy cherry tomatoes to add a bit of needed acidity. Also, to make a delicious dressing, you combine sour cream with mustard.

How to make the creamy dressing?

Considering that the ingredients of this outstanding salad are above all – healthy, I wanted to follow this path when creating the dressing. I chose sour cream instead of mayonnaise and mixed it with a generous tablespoon of Dijon mustard. The composition was missing salt to my taste, so I added a pinch of sea salt. Also, if the texture is too thick, you may dilute it with a bit of water. This is how I did to get the liquid creamy dressing to coat my delici9us salad. Just mix and stir the ingredients, simple as that.

Tip: you can use yogurt as a substitute for sour cream. I would use a creamy yogurt, skimmed yogurt has a more acidic taste and is not a good pair with the mustard. Also, pick up mustard that is not very pungent, keep in mind that you have peppery arugula already who fits that role.

How to boil eggs?

A very simple thing to do at first sight but with an incredible number and varieties and explanations – how to boil eggs. I will describe the method I use, the one that my mother taught me.

Take a saucepan and carefully put the eggs on the bottom. Make sure they don’t crack during the transfer. Pour cold water over the eggs, just to cover them is enough. I always make sure to have enough water in the saucepan as this ensures an even boiling of the eggs.

Now put the pan on the stove and turn on the heat. Bring water to a boil and let it simmer for 5 minutes if you want the eggs hard-boiled. For half-soft eggs let them boil for 2 minutes.

Finally, drain the hot water and add cold water. The thermal shock allows an easier peeling of the eggs.

How to make the smoked salmon salad?

Start preparing the salad by boiling the eggs. Once that’s done, peel them and set aside. Next, slice the salmon if needed. You may find slices of smoked salmon and you can skip this step. Then continue with the avocado. Cut it in half, extract the kernel and slice it beautifully. You can either first peel it – then slice it, or slice it, then use a spoon to take out the skin.

Don’t miss the succulent cherry tomatoes. Wash and slice them in quarters.

For a beautiful presentation use a wide bowl to make an arugula bed on which to lay the rest of the ingredients. Now spread pieces of the smoked salmon, quarters of cherry tomatoes, halves of boiled eggs, and slices of arugula all over the plate.

Pour the creamy mustard sauce over the artistic mixture. Do not add extra salt, the smoked salmon and the sauce perfectly supply the necessity of salt in the dish.

How to serve a smoked salmon salad?

Serve the salad as soon as it is dressed. Just use a large spoon to transfer to your plate the mix of the scrumptious ingredients. You can pair it with a loaf of bread if you allow carbs in your diet. Otherwise, serve it as it is because this salad needs nothing more to be perfect.
