Ingredients for strawberry pasta salad
The strawberry pasta salad is an original recipe with a successful mix of tastes and textures. It fully deserves its place on a festive table. This inspirational pasta is made of a few basic ingredients and other ingredients typical for spring. For a perfect taste use only high-quality products.Â
As a base, you need some fusilli pasta or any pasta you have available. It can be the conchiglie (shells) or the farfalle, just avoid using spaghetti of course. Then you need the mozzarella cheese. It is best if you can find a small shaped mozzarella, like the cigliege. If not, use regular mozzarella and just cut it into smaller pieces.Â
Also, for the recipe, you will need some spinach leaves, some basil, and mint leaves. These herbs are very aromatic, just imagine the smell and the savory.Â
The main ingredient of this beautiful dish is the strawberry. This is the protagonist ingredient that takes this salad at another level of food perception.
You can also use red onion for the recipe, however, this ingredient is optional. I did not skip it because I think it adds a little bit more character to finesse of the other ingredients.
Ingredients for wine vinegar-honey sauce
I find this salad a special dish because of its sauce as well. The dressing is made of wine vinegar, honey, olive oil, salt, and ground black pepper. You can already imagine the sour taste combined with sweetness and calmed by the olive oil.Â
Honestly speaking this is one of the sauces I was skeptical about at the start. However, I already included it in my sauce list because even though it is different, it brings extra value to the salad. The thickness of the honey will be dissolved by the acidity of the wine vinegar. The sweetness of the honey will be balanced by the soreness of the vinegar. As you can see, it is a dance of the tastes that finally balance to perfection. Just blend everything together and season with some salt and pepper and let yourself conquered by an eccentric new taste
What kind of pasta to use for the strawberry pasta salad
As I mentioned above, you can use any pasta you like most, just avoid using the spaghetti. Pasta shapes with nooks and crannies such as rotini, penne, fusilli, or farfalle are a perfect choice. Choose the dried pasta over the fresh one because dried pasta holds up better when tossed with the dressing and when served at room temperature. Just cook it according to the package instructions. It should be cooked to al dente and let to completely cool off before being added to the rest of the ingredients.
How to make the strawberry pasta salad?
The simple recipe is made by combining all the ingredients in one single bowl and by seasoning with the delicious dressing.Â
Let’s take one step at a time. Take a bowl with the volume capacity to mix all the ingredients. Once the pasta has completely cooled off, transfer it to the bowl.Â
Carefully wash the strawberries with cold water. Then pamper them with some paper towels to absorb the excess water. Finally, slice the strawberries in equal parts, not too thin though. Add the cut strawberries to the bowl, then add the spinach, some basil, and mint leaves. You can crush them if you want a more intense aroma. You can consider adding some slices of thinly cut red onion. Finally, add the mozzarella.
Actually, there is no specific order of adding the ingredients, do as you wish. Pour the dressing over the salad and mix. You can drizzle some balsamic sauce on top of it if you like like I do.
Serve with pleasure!Â
Note: I do not recommend this salad for a second day serving because the ingredients will get mushy and soft. It is best when served immediately.Â
