Whenever you are searching for the perfect dessert, take into consideration a simple, but so delicious French parfait. I was never good at cooking desserts. Too much time on cooking is definitely not my comfort zone. However, when I came across this easy, quick, but out of this world dessert, I thought it is just that one for me. This parfait recipe will make your start of the day beautiful and amazing. This kind of dessert is ideal for special events, grab-n-go breakfasts, as well as a late evening sweet treat at home. I like this dessert even in patisseries, but a homemade one is much appreciated. Also, it depends on the season you want to make it. In summer you will have more freshly and aromatic fruits, but in winter blueberries, mangos, or oranges will also make your parfait a divine end of the dinner.
What I like most about this dessert, is that it can be eaten at any time of the day – even in the late evenings. (If I use a plain greek yogurt than it doesn’t matter what time of day you can knap it).
I consider it a versatile dessert as you can layer any kind of fruits, granola you like in a nice glass. It is such a delish and tempting dessert. The way it looks like as if always invites you to try it – these strawberries aroma is irresistible. I adore simple, but yummy desserts.
What is a parfait?
A parfait is a famous French dessert that dates back to1892. A timeless sweety, but still so modern and actual nowadays. The classic French parfait is made as an iced dessert blended with egg yolks, cream, sugar, fruits and sometimes some drops of liquor. However, nowadays, it has been modified and changed after each housewife and re-invented, but with the same layering base. I like the easier recipe made of fruits, granola, and cream. So simple and so delicious. This easy recipe and technique are more of American-style, and more suitable for me.
All these layers topped with some whipped cream is served in a tall glass nicely decorated. For note: if you make it in advance some hours before serving, use the whipped cream at the time you are serving it, as it tends to melt and it will lose its gorgeous aspect.

How to make strawberry parfait?
If you haven’t tried it yet at home, you will see how easy and quick it is done. Take some strawberries and blueberries and wash them. Place on some paper towel to absorb the water. Meanwhile, I take my hand mixer and blend one pack (500gr / 17oz) of sour cream with the icing sugar. Mix well these two ingredients until it has a fluffy and intense texture. This mixture shouldn’t look too liquid, it should have a thick texture. Usually, it takes about 5 minutes to mix the cream with icing sugar. I didn’t add too much icing sugar as I didn’t want it too sweet, about 2tbsp. Pour the cream in the piping bag to easily pipe and decorate the dessert.
Take some nice glasses and start layering.
Strat with sour cream on the bottom by adding granola, and chopped strawberries. Repeat this process 2 times and finish it with some whipped cream on the top. Such a funny but nice process. My daughter is always helping me layering this kind of dessert.
For note: you can buy granola in the stores, you can check my recipe here and make it at home your way, or sometimes I take my daughter’s butter cookies, mix a little and add them to my parfait. Any kind of cookies will be nice here. We adore buttery cookies as they are soft, easily melts in your mouth, have a good taste and are one of those cookies everyone loves.

Can you make parfait in advance?
Yes, you can. You can store the heavy cream mixture, chopped fruits, and assemble parfait before serving. Store the ingredients no more than one day. Definitely, I will not advise you this method, as nothing beats freshly chopped strawberries at the moment they are served. The aroma in the house is mouthwatering – I adore how strawberries smell.
Also, you can freeze the parfait in order to keep them cool before displaying them on the table. It may affect the texture, nonetheless, top the whipped cream to camouflage the minuses at the moment you are bringing the desserts. One more secret about parfait is to avoid keeping it for too long out on the table. It tends to melt, and having dairy sit out for more than 1 hour is too cautious.
- Parfait can be made of yogurt or sour cream. I like the fat consistency of sour cream, but I have made parfait of plain yogurt as well.
- Additionally, you can add some drops of liquor.
- The classic recipe requires egg yolks, however, I have never used it when mixing the cream.
- I usually use icing sugar, but you can easily add confectioners’ sugar. Both versions are okay.
- Fruits: here you can add the seasonal ones, the ones you like despite what time of year it is, or frozen.
- If you store it before serving do not top the whipped cream. Garnish it at the time you are serving it.
- Granola here is also optional. You can add chopped Graham’s cookies that will suit perfectly a great-tasting parfait.

Irresistible Strawberry Granola Parfait
- hand mixer
- 1 pack sour cream
- 2 tbsp icing sugar
- 5 big strawberries
- 1/2 cup blueberries
- 1/2 granola
- whipped cream
- Wash the fruits and wipe with a paper towel. Chop the strawberries medium-size.
- Take a hand mixer and blend the sour cream with the icing sugar until a smooth and thick texture.
- Pour the cream in the piping bag to easily pipe and decorate the dessert.
- Take 2 big glasses and start layering. Add sour cream on the bottom then add granola, and the chopped strawberries.
- Repeat this process 2 times and finish it with some whipped cream on the top.
- Garnish with some fresh fruits. Serve immediately.
