Salmon, colorful vegetables, and pasta come together in one extra creamy casserole – sounds good, doesn’t it? A cheese topping creates an irresistible crispy crust, making every bite lingering.

Easy and healthy is the key to successful recipes in my house. I adore making balanced dishes that contain creamy dressing, healthy raw veggies, and fish or meat.

For today, I have decided that I want a creamy salmon casserole with broccoli that is hearty but at the same time healthy and tasty. Ooey-gooey cheese lovers will find this recipe the best one!

In my family, salmon is one of the most preferred fishes, so I try to cook it in various ways. You can also check Salmon soup, Salmon in Teriyaki Sauce, Farfalle with salmon, Salmon tartare, and even more.

salmon casseroleEven though this recipe looks long and complicated, on the contrary, if you follow my steps, you will get convinced how quick you will assemble it. Baked salmon with cheese and broccoli is everything you want for dinner. On meatless days, I try to make fish recipes with tasty servings. Some spices, some lemon juice, veggies, cheese, and pasta are all mixed with fresh salmon – even kids will love it!

Tender and flavourful, this salmon casserole is perfect even on a party table served next to any salads.

Although it may seem an old-fashioned recipe, this dish will warm your feelings with a cozy, creamy texture. My grandma and my mom used to make this simple but so delicious dish for us. Maybe this is why I adore it that much and try to delight my family with this dish often.

I adore casserole, and you can check some recipes on our blog – Mashed potato casserole, Spinach Casserole, Zucchini casserole, Keto Broccoli Cheese casserole.

What are the main ingredients in a casserole?

A casserole is ordinarily a baked in the oven dish that contains three main components:

  • protein – pieces of meat or fish, eggs or vegetable protein such as mushrooms, chickpeas, beans;
  • various fresh or frozen vegetables;
  • starchy binder, such as pasta, rice, potato, crumbs, or even flour.

For this salmon casserole, besides essential ingredients, you can add your favorite ingredients – and here, the possibilities are endless. For my today’s recipe, I added some fresh shrimp. Shrimp make a great duo with salmon in this creamy casserole. My shopping cart was full of healthy and hearty products.

  • salmon
  • shrimps
  • garlic
  • broccoli
  • bread crumbs
  • cream cheese
  • milk
  • eggs
  • Gouda cheese
  • Parmesan cheese
  • pasta (fusilli)

Do you cover salmon casserole in the oven?

If you are making a salmon casserole with uncooked grains, rice, or potatoes, then it will be better to cover the casserole for at least from the beginning. For a crispy and brown top, uncover the casserole 10-15 minutes before it is ready.

Casseroles made of pre-cooked ingredients are usually baked uncovered.

What kind of pasta to use?

My favorite kind of pasta that I usually use for salads and casseroles is fusilli and shells. The perfect shape holds well the casserole composition. Penne and fettuccine also work well for this recipe.

salmon-casseroleHow to pre-cook pasta?

Boiling pasta is a relatively easy step. You just have to follow the instruction on the pasta package and achieve the needed result. However, some little secrets will simplify even more your pain.

Boiling in a lot of water – one of the main tricks- it should be the 3:1 ratio of water to pasta. Salt the water generously, so you will get tasting pasta just from the start. For the casserole, you need the pasta al-dente, so drain it when it is still a bit hard, and do not forget that it requires “space” to soak in the sauce.

How to pre-cook broccoli?

salmon casseroleWash the broccoli, cut its florets, and set aside to drain well.  Meanwhile, heat the skillet with one tablespoon of olive oil. Once it is hot, add three minced cloves of garlic. Let the oil absorb the garlic’s aroma for about 2-3 minutes, and add the broccoli. Saute veggies for 3-4 minutes until it softens a bit. Make sure the broccoli remains firm and a little crunchy.

How do you make Salmon Casserole from scratch?

Salmon Casserole is a cheesy, satisfying, and comforting dish to enjoy on lazy evenings. Even kids will enjoy this delicious salmon casserole recipe made of pasta with cheese and fresh salmon. Casseroles are perfect for using leftovers and products that are ready to spoil.

salmon casseroleI don’t like messing around in the kitchen, so casseroles are one of my favorite saving time dishes. I use to mix all the ingredients in one plate and then just send them to the oven. But for this casserole recipe, I had pre-cooked the pasta and broccoli to leave salmon and shrimps soft and fragrant. Otherwise, you will get a chewy and dry fish and shrimp, and this is not the way you want them to be.

Peel and deveins shrimp if needed. Now take the skin off the salmon and dice it about the shrimp and broccoli’s size. Transfer them to the large mixing bowl. Add al-dente pasta, sauteed broccoli, shredded gouda cheese, bread crumbs and gently mix.

salmon casseroleIn a separate bowl, combine the remaining ingredients. First, beat the eggs with milk. Then stir in cream cheese, salt, pepper, paprika. Do not skip cream cheese as it definitely adds softness to this dish.

Pour the liquid mixture over prepared ingredients ahead. Combine gently.

How long do you leave a Salmon Casserole in the oven?

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. In the meantime, grease the baking pan with butter or olive oil all over its inner part. Then sprinkle some bread crumbs so you cover the bottom and the walls of the pan. Spoon the casserole mixture into the pan and distribute evenly. Top generously with some grated parmesan.

Bake for about 45 minutes. Once ready, garnish with fresh herbs.

Salmon casserole is an extraordinarily delicious and nutritious dish. Either served for dinner or lunch, this comfort food will surely delight any cravings.
