No summer will be complete without a tray of seafood or a simple seafood boil. Gather all your friends and serve this great tasting shrimp boil that no one will resist.

What is the Shrimp Boil?

Every year in August, New Orlean celebrates the end of summer. The world capital of jazz honors the estival season through festivals, fairs, and concerts. An important event is COOLinary New Orleans.

One of the culinary stars of the festival is Shrimp Boil. In the classic recipe, the basic ingredients are fresh shrimp, red or purple potatoes, sausages, and boiled corn toasted generously with Old Bay Seasoning. All ingredients are boiled in one pot, usually in a hearty and flavorful broth. The key to a successful and savory recipe is adding ingredients to the pot so that everything will cook at once. Ingredients absorb all flavors and result in a delicious dish.

Although it is considered a summer dish, you can find all ingredients year-round too. So just combine frozen corn, potatoes, and fresh shrimp. Also, adapt easy the recipe for baked shrimp with vegetables to your taste.

Let’s start with the most important – with vegetables!

What vegetables go well with shrimp?

I usually cook shrimps in butter with a lot of garlic, paired with broccoli, asparagus garnish, or avocado. And I can confirm that it is the best combination for me. Moreover, my husband totally agrees with me.

But what are your favorite vegetables? Do you know which of them goes well with shrimp? Don’t worry if you don’t know, I’m here to help you.

Below there is a list of vegetables that pairs well with shrimp, but keep in mind that cooking time for each of them can vary:

  • Broccoli
  • Potatoes (baked or fried)
  • Sweet potatoes (baked)
  • Asparagus
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Peas (frozen or fresh)
  • Zucchini (baked or steamed)
  • Bell peppers (baked)
  • Carrots (baked)
  • Cauliflower (baked)

Make sure you take into consideration that vegetables have different cooking times and for some of them I would recommend cooking separately from shrimp.

For example, if you choose potatoes or sweet potatoes, it would be better to cook them first, for about 10-12 minutes. Only then add shrimp and seasoning.

If you are wondering which fruit would pair perfect to baked shrimp, see below some examples:

  • Pineapple (grilled)
  • Kiwi (in salsa)
  • Avocado (with chili and lime)
  • Mango (in sauce)

Anyway, if you do not like any of the above options, I will give you more ideas on how you can serve baked shrimps. There is something else you can do to adapt the vegetable shrimp recipe to your taste. And I think it is a very important tip.

How to make Shrimp Boil?

To enjoy a restaurant-quality dish at home is not so hard as it sounds. The key to success is to spend some minutes or even sometimes hours in your kitchen. As I am always busy or in a hurry I prefer simple dishes with less mess and lost time. This recipe is perfect for late dinner or to feed a big crowd.

To save some time I always start preheating the oven. Then when the dish is ready to be baked you don’t have to wait till the oven is preheated. So, turn in on at 400˚F.

Meanwhile, before mixing potatoes and corn with shrimps cook them al dente. Today I decided to simplify as possible the cooking process and took frozen potato balls. So I do not have to precook them. As for corn, I always prefer to use fresh ones on the cob. So, grab 3 ears of corn and cut them into 2-inch sized pieces. Then in a large pot with salted water boil corn for about 10 minutes. Also for this recipe, you can easily use our Instant Pot Boiled Corn on the Cob leftovers.

In the meantime, prepare the Old Bay butter sauce. And as I am so addicted to garlic I have not wasted my chance to use it in this recipe too. Heat a big skillet on medium heat. Then add ⅓ cup of butter. When you see the butter melted add the crushed garlic. It is up to your taste how much will you add. Let it sauté for about 2 minutes. Then pour the melted butter in a medium bowl. Mix in 1 tsp of smoked paprika, 2 tsp Old Bay seasoning, 1 tsp of salt, 1tbsp fresh lemon juice, and some chill flakes if desired.

Peel and devein the shrimp. See the instructions here.

Grab a baking tray and grease it with some olive oil. Transfer all ingredients to the tray: potatoes ball (there is no need to thaw them), precooked corn, shrimps, and some shallot wedges. Pour the butter mixture on the top and gently toss to combine.

Bake just for about 12-15 minutes, as shrimp cooks very quickly.

What to Serve with a Shrimp Boil?

Cann’t even imagine how good this recipe turned out. Just add some lemon wedges and serve with pleasure. Shrimp Boil pairs really well with any salad or sauces.
