Is Chia OK for Keto?
First, let me tell you some words about the ketogenic diet. This diet involves increased intake of healthy fats, moderate protein, and low carbohydrates.
This diet’s primary purpose is to consume low in carbohydrates products that are rich in nutrients at the same time. You must also obviously eliminate sugar, foods rich in refined carbohydrates, as well as processed foods with added preservatives and colorings. More than weight loss, the ketogenic diet is aimed at a healthy lifestyle.
Following a ketogenic diet, it’s essential to fuel your body well with healthy fats and fiber. So, chia seeds are an excellent choice for this purpose. Chia is classified as a superfood because of its properties. Two tablespoons of chia contain 140 calories, 4 grams of protein, 11 grams of fiber, and 7 grams of unsaturated fat. The amount of fiber makes it one of the best sources of fiber available.
Chia seeds also contain all nine essential amino acids that our bodies need and cannot produce on their own naturally. These seeds are packed with vitamins, antioxidants, and Omega-3.
What berries are allowed on keto?
Most fruits are too high in carbohydrates to be included in your diet if you are on keto. But berries are an exception, as they are low in carbs and high in fiber. They make an excellent option for keto dieters. Surely you can not eat them freely. Just consume them in a limited quantity, especially if you are on a strict keto diet.
Strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries are the perfect addition to your Keto Meal plan. Blueberries are higher in carbohydrates but still suitable for the ketogenic diet.
How do you make Keto Chia Pudding?
This life-saver recipe takes minutes to make and serves a great breakfast, snack, or dessert. Making the keto chia pudding is one of the easiest things. This recipe requires minimum effort, time, and ingredients. Easily make a double portion and enjoy during the whole week! This satisfying pudding will definitely keep you going until lunch.
Before I decided to share this recipe, I have tried various ratios between chia seeds and liquid. And the best ratio I have found is somewhere between 1:4 and 1:6. It depends on how thick you like your chia pudding and what liquid you are using. If you are making pudding with cream or yogurt, you have to use fewer seeds and vice versa.
To flavor today’s keto chia pudding, I choose fresh berries – aromatic strawberries and blueberries – these two are my favorite berries. So start by mashing 1 cup of strawberries. Then distribute the mixture amongst four glasses (or jars).
In a separate bowl, mix until thoroughly combined, 2 cups of coconut cream with ½ cup chia seeds. I didn’t add any sweetness as coconut cream is sweet enough. Now pour chia mixture over mashed strawberries. Send to the refrigerator to thicken for 1 – 2 hours or overnight. Before serving, top with some blueberries and sliced strawberries.
- Adjust texture and sweetness to your taste.
- If you don’t like the chia gloops’ texture, simply grind your seeds before adding them to the liquid.
- You can add cinnamon, vanilla seeds, cardamom, unsweetened cocoa powder, and dry matcha tea to diversify flavor. Fresh berries can be substituted with chopped nuts, seeds, coconut flakes, or Keto Cranberry Sauce. Actually, the possibilities are endless.
