Gourmet Philly Cheesesteak Recipe

Philly Cheesesteak is a delicious sandwich and a classic combination of thinly sliced beef steak, melting cheese, and crusty buttered bread. These sandwiches are easy to make at home and can taste even better than in a restaurant.

What makes a Philly Cheesesteak so authentic and tasty?

This Philly Cheesesteak recipe that I will present for today is an authentic version, however, it can be created in so many ways and of different combinations. An authentic Philly Cheesesteak is made in Philadelphia of simple but flavorful ingredients. Authentic, or not, I consider that you will enjoy making my recipe!

My first experience with this flavorful, meaty, and cheesy sandwich was one of the best. This hearty and satisfying Cheesesteak captured my attention, and have earned my love at once. Gooey and tender are just some words that perfectly describe its simplicity, but such a fabulous taste.

Gourmet Philly Cheesesteak RecipePhilly Cheesesteak is perfect for parties, game day food, or as simple as they are any night of the week. Juicy and tender beef meat, melting cheese, sour cornichon pickles, onion, some dressing and all of them between a hoagie soft and crunchy roll. If you are a Cheesesteak fan like me, then you will find my recipe interesting and easy to make at home. The recipe is filled with intoxicating aromas and flavours. This iconic and famous American sandwich has quickly become popular all over the world due to its simplicity, but ultra-delicious bites. What I love about homemade Philly Cheesesteak is the way they look less fancy, then in a restaurant, but taste much better. At home, you can add the best quality bought meat, fresh veggies, crispy baguette and enjoy an ultimate simple but delicious dinner. I love to eat in restaurants, especially those kinds of meals I rarely do at home, but a simple and rustic Cheesesteak is always a pleasure to make.

Hope you liked and enjoyed my recipe! Also, you can check our homemade hot-dogs that are so simple to make and so tasty to enjoy!

What toppings go on a Philly Cheesesteak?

Gourmet Philly Cheesesteak RecipeThis versatile American sandwich is welcomed with any toppings you like. If you derive from an authentic version, then Philly Cheesesteak will pair perfectly with hot chilli peppers, mushrooms, fried onion rings, and any melting cheese you like. There isn’t a certain rule what is best to use for Cheesesteak toppings: but I know for sure that the best ground meat with a super melting cheese will make it all taste great!

What kind of steak is used for Philly Cheesesteak?

Gourmet Philly Cheesesteak RecipeAn authentic Philadelphia Philly Cheesesteak is made of thinly sliced ribeye steak. However, in my case, and maybe in the case of many other people, any kind of soft, tender beef is welcomed. I have used beef fillet (or tenderloin) as I like its softness, juiciness, and flavours. I have found recipes using sirloin or filet mignon that can also be great for Philly Cheesesteak recipe. Any delicate, but qualitative and fresh beef meat will be perfect for these sandwiches!

How to make a Philly Cheesesteak?

This ultimate Philly Cheesesteak recipe is simple and easy to make if you are using quality ingredients and the thinnest of the raw beef. This tandem will make you mouthwatering even in the process of cooking, not speaking of eating them. Let’s see what ingredients you need:

Philly Cheesesteak Recipe

The ingredients:

  • 1lb beef filet trimmed and thinly sliced.
  • 2 hoagie rolls cut half but not fully, buttered and grilled.
  • 1 yellow onion sliced and fried.
  • 5 mozzarella cheese (here you can add any melting, mild, and soft cheese you like).
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter. Soft enough to grease the rolls.
  • 2 cloves of minced garlic.
  • ½ cup of mayo.
  • ½ cup of ketchup.
  • Salt and black pepper individually.

These easy Philly Cheesesteaks are super delicious and truly beloved in my house. You can prepare the meat on a grill, stove, or flat cooktop.

The steps: Dice the onions and sautee them on medium heat in a skillet. Meanwhile thinly slice the beef filet and season it at your taste. In a large skillet at a high heat add 1tbsp of olive oil, spread the beef and chop or cut it with a spatula. This simple process resembles much the one we cook the meat for bolognese sauce. Let the meat cook until brown on each side and then easily add the caramelized onions. Take the cheese and cover the meat with it in order to melt and obtain an unbelievable tasty filling. Turn off the heat and let the cheese melt.

Philly Cheesesteak Spoon cheesesteak mixture into your toasts, top some chilli peppers, add some pickles and serve immediately.

Serve Philly Cheesesteaks warm next to some French fries, healthy salads, or simply as they are! Bon Appetit!

Tips:

  • In order to easily slice the meat, keep it in the fridge for a while. It will ease your process.
  • Add any veggies you like, as well as fresh or grilled.
  • Add bell peppers, however, an authentic Philly Cheesesteak recipe is always without.

I love to create restaurant-like dinners at home. This Philly Cheesesteak recipe is the simple way to fulfil your craving when you want a beefy/cheesy filling for dinner.
