Which apples are best to use for cake?
In my opinion best apples that will only compliment your cake are baking apples. Otherwise, you risk getting a mushy apple cake. Baking apples hold their shape well when cooked, so fruit pieces will not turn into puree. Also, fruits should be firm and not overripe. Not too sweet apples – is another tip that I always take into consideration when I am baking this apple cake.
For lovely flavor and to get the best bang, mix different varieties of apples so that you will get the perfect combo of texture and taste. All in one – sour and sweet, crunchy and tender.
From a wide variety of apples, I find the following good for this apple cake:
- Granny Smith, Pink Lady – are great if you prefer tarter taste;
- Gala, Honey Crisp, Fuji, Golden Delicious, and Jonagold -is for those who like sweet apples.
The kind of apples really changes the taste of the cake, so grab the one you prefer!
How to cut apples for Apple Cake?
The best option for preparing apples for the cake is to dice them finely. You will get juicy apple chunks visible into your cake. Also, in this case, the apple flavor will be more pronounced.
If you do not like to feel the apple pieces in your cake and want a uniformly moist texture, you can thinly slice or shred the apples. For a tender cake texture is essential to peel the fruits, otherwise, you will get a gritty texture.
How to make Apple Cake?
If you are looking to satisfy your sweet tooth with a simply gorgeous homemade treat, then you must try this apple cake. The batter is made incredibly fast, and if you use an electric mixer, then consider you’re covered up. The only thing that I always advise is to have at hand all ingredients prepared. Swift the flour and measure the rest of the ingredients. Wash and pat dry 4 apples. Grease the side, line the base of the 9-inch springform pan with baking paper and set it aside. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
In a large mixing bowl, crack four eggs. Beat them a little, and then slowly add 1 cup of sugar. Whisk vigorously until frothy. Once you obtain a beautiful foam, whisk in 1 ¼ cups of mascarpone cheese. It is time to incorporate dry ingredients. Gradually whisk in 1 ¼ cups of all-purpose flour and 2 teaspoons of baking powder.
Grab and peel 2 apples. Next, cut them into medium size chunks and incorporate them to the batter. Add in 2 tablespoons of cinnamon powder and mix again. Scrape the apple cake batter into the prepared pan and level it off. Next, peel, core, and thinly slice the remaining apples. Arrange the slices in concentric circles over the batter, starting from the edges and finishing in the center. At this point, sprinkle the apple cake with 2 tablespoons of icing sugar and with the same amount of cinnamon powder. This final touch of sweet and spicy blend will create a beautiful and fragrant crust.
Send the apple cake to the oven and bake for about 45 minutes and when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, then your cake is perfectly baked. When baked, do not remove the cake from the pan. First, allow it to cool a little.
Serve this lovely flavored apple cake with a spoon of vanilla ice cream and a cup of coffee. I assure you such fabulous desserts can turn any bad day around.
Tips:
- Make this moist cake with other fruits you like. I think it is the perfect way to make your children eat fruits if they don’t like them raw.
- To prevent apples from turning brown, drizzle them with some lemon juice after slicing.
- I recommend storing this apple cake in the fridge for 24 hours or up to 48 hours.
