Leftover ham at home?

Not anymore with this easy and delicious ham salad recipe.

Creamy ham saladHam salad made with simple ingredients is a perfect side dish to serve with friends and family. Resembling much an egg salad or Olivier salad, this easy to make ham salad is tasty, creamy, and hearty. It can be served on sandwiches, on tossed bread, or topped on crackers. This quick salad will become one of your favourites due to its easiness and great taste.

A full-flavoured ham salad will become a delicious sandwich not only for lunch but for dinner as well. Nothing screams more comfort food like this creamy ham salad that is more than just perfect when you have some leftover ham.

I adore this salad served on anything. It pairs just ideal with everything and makes a great salad when I offer parties or BBQs out with family.

Creamy ham salad recipeSome pickles, fresh celery stalks for freshness, eggs, and ham is ready in 10 minutes and works great with any dish. Optional you can add cheese. I adore cheese but I skip it for this salad. However, if you want it more intense and hearty than you can easily add some piccorino or parmesan.

It is a versatile kind of salad and can easily be mixed with any ingredients you have at home. For example my daugther doesn’t like celery stalks in any dishes, so I try to make a small amount for her without celery add-inn. Also, I try to add 1 tbsp of Dijon mustard to the mayo dressing but you can skip or substitute it with other sauces or spices.

A simple salad should always taste delicious, easy to assemble, and no leftovers.

 What ham do you use?

Creamy ham salad recipeFor this salad you can use any ham you like. For example I adore smoked qualitative ham that has an intense aroma and a fin texture. A nice pale pink colour with an irresiatble smell. Ham is rich in proteins and some other beneficial nutrients. However, eating too much ham is not recommended as it can increase some health risks. I adore ham in salads or simply a slice of ham topped on a piece of bread, but I limit myself as I know that it isn’t that good.

How long does ham salad last in the refrigerator?

Creamy ham salad recipeIf I have some leftover ham salad, which is very rarely in my house, I easily store it for up to 3 days. Put the salad in an airtight container and store it for some days, but not for too long as it has mayo dressing and it isn’t recommended to store such salads for longer.

Also, add some 2 tbsp of fresh mayo to the salad to reinvigorate the taste and to add a touch of freshness.

Why is it called a sandwich? A ham salad sandwich?

Creamy ham salad recipeIt is an American/England-style ham salad that is traditionally served between two slices of pan fried bread or fresh bread. Theoretically, you can serve this salad any way, but if you want it authentic and classic then the salad between two pieces of bread is  the right way.

How to make ham salad from scratch?

This creamy ham salad has a flavourful taste that makes you instantly try some. A spreadable sandwich with a distinctive classic taste to make any time of the year. Tasty and delicious flavours will nicely delight crowd-pleasing at any events.

Creamy ham salad ingredients

The ingredients:

  • 14 oz (400gr) of ham
  • 2 hard-boiled eggs
  • 2 pickles
  • 2-3 stalks of celery
  • Some red onion or spring onion
  • 2 cups of mayo
  • 1 tbsp of Dijon mustard
  • Bread or mini eclers
  • Lettuce

Take a food processor and whirl the ham, it has to look more like crumbs, not like a paste, so avoid pulsing too much. In case you don’t have a food processor easily dice ham small chunks, by yourself. I have whirled eggs, as well.

Take a small bowl and mix the mayo with Dijon mustard and pour over the ingredients. Mix well until smooth and creamy.

Some add-ins…

Red onion or spring onion

Bell pepper adds a little sweetness and crunchiness to this great ham salad recipe.

Mushrooms at your discretion.

Cheddar or parmesan will add saltiness and heartiness.

I would not recommend tomatoes as they tend to leave water so your salad will look soggy and too liquidy.
